This Saturday, 21st April will be a busy day in the Strathaven John Hastie Museum Trust diary.
We will have a small team at Sainsburys to promote our summer exhibition entitled ‘Educating Avondale’. Our members and Directors will be there to give information on our exhibition as well as asking if you have any items/memorabilia from your school days in Avondale. Maybe you still have old jotters, textbooks, certificates hiding in the back of a cupboard or in the loft? Perhaps you have a school prize kept over the years?
If you would be willing to allow us to scan or photograph your items to use during the exhibition, you can call in at 360 Graphics in Townhead Street on Saturday where Trust members will be there to help. If you are willing to lend us your items to display during the exhibition, we can organise that – or indeed if you have anything you would like to donate to the Trust we would be very grateful as this will add to both our exhibition and our archive.
Our aim is to eventually acquire our own premises in which to host exhibitions and store our own materials. In order to do this we are continually seeking funding and require the support of local residents to show that we have your backing. We therefore would ask you to consider adding your name to our petition and also perhaps donating a small amount in our collection cans. You will find petition forms and collection cans in a number of businesses throughout the town.
