Strathaven forms part of the wider Avondale community that includes Glassford, Sandford and Chapelton. The area is one of natural beauty with many attractions for visitors and residents alike. Strathaven sits on the A71, the main route between the west coast of Scotland and Edinburgh. It is within 4 miles of the M74 and is close to the local towns of East Kilbride and Hamilton.
Avondale has a long and diverse history including battles, links to the covenanters and castles and has developed over the years from weaving and agriculture into a lively community where there are many interesting and unusual events and festivals over the course of the year. The history of the area is one of the primary reasons for the existence of the Strathaven John Hastie Museum Trust and we look forward to helping you discover more about our wonderful area.
